The ADAM (Adopt a Man) Project is in place to help the men at Anchor House succeed in their transition back into society following their incarceration. Anchor House is a Christian Residential Transition Program based in Lake Worth, Florida. To learn more about Anchor House, go to the ANCHOR HOUSE Page.
When these men return to society, most of them start all over penniless and with little support from others and frequently spend significant time in (often difficult) search for employment. They must pay rent and obtain clothing, bedclothes, towel/washcloth, cosmetics, food, and a phone et al...but how can they do this without money? And how can we reasonably expect them to succeed in their transition without these basic needs being met?
Ephesians 4:28 Ministries asks individuals and/or groups to consider “adopting” one Anchor House man a year. This “adoption” calls for a donation of $900.00. When provided, this donation is used as follows:
· The first month’s $500.00 rent payment
· The $100.00 security deposit
· The remaining $300.00 is used to provide him bedclothes, clothing, food, cosmetics, and a phone (this amount of money only provides a very limited quantity of these items, but they do help him get started).
After he has obtained employment and is able to make his monthly rent payments, he is required to reimburse the $500.00 “adopted” rent payment and security deposit at the rate of $50.00 per month; this monthly reimbursement is then added to an accountable “petty cash” fund to help pay for other needs around Anchor House.
When he leaves Anchor House, and if it is not needed to cover cleaning costs, etc., the $100.00 security deposit is also placed in the Anchor House “petty cash” fund.
If you would like to assist us in this cause but cannot afford to cover the full amount that is sought per man, we thank you for whatever amount you are able to help with. For example, through Walmart we generally acquire new bedclothes plus a towel, hand cloth, and washcloth for $42.43. Through Metro PCS, we obtain a new phone with the first month’s coverage for $97.38. Shoes, clothes, and cosmetic costs vary. Most men qualify for food stamp assistance, but we help with food until the food stamp assistance begins. We also help with transportation by providing $15.00 for the cost of a reduced rate monthly bus pass. These are just some examples of the needs we assist with and their costs.
Anchor House is founded and operated by At the Cross, Inc., which you can learn more about on the ANCHOR HOUSE Page. However, the ADAM (Adopt a Man) Project is conducted solely by Ephesians 4:28 Ministries in support of their goals, and Ephesians 4:28 Ministries stands accountable and takes full responsibility for making sure that all funds provided for this project are used appropriately.
